1.1 AWS global Infrastructure
Region: a Region is a geographical area. Each region consists of 2 or more Availability Zones.
Availability Zone: each AZ is simply a Data Center, each with redundant power, networking and connectivity, housed in separate facilities. (One Subnet equals to One Availability Zone.)
Edge Locations: Edge Locations are endpoints for AWS which are used for caching content. This consists of CloudFront which is Amazon's Content Delivery Network (CDN). Edge Locations are CDN End Points for CloudFront, which can cache your large media and document objects. There are many more Edge Locations than Regions.
